We use technology more than ever these days to stay connected with our friends and family, stay updated with what’s happening around the world, and more so to be entertained. With all the computers, tablets, smartphones and other high-tech devices our society is dependent on, we need the skills of professionals in technology jobs to make our obsession with tech possible. We will aim to cover some interesting career options in tech via 4 domains – Data Science, Machine Learning, IoT’s and Full-Stack Development.
 

1. Data Science
The purchases you make at an online store, the type of accounts you follow on Instagram, and the words you search on Google are all data. Organisations value this data because it helps them understand patterns and trends and make business decisions according to the inferences drawn from the data. For example, online shopping stores process data from thousands of customers to make better product recommendations.
Data Scientists, Big Data Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Managers are required to get insights into this data and find patterns in it to enable decision-making. In a 2017 report, LinkedIn ranked Data Scientists and Big Data Engineers among the top emerging jobs.

Course of Study: A degree in computer science (B.Tech/B.Sc/M.Sc) will allow you to develop skills in programming languages such as Python, Java, Perl, etc. Along with that, you can take up certifications in Business Analytics and Intelligence, Data Analytics and Data Science.
 

2. Machine Learning
Artificial Intelligence is a field of computer science that deals with the creation of smart machines and systems that have the ability to think and process information as humans do. For example, voice recognition systems like Siri and Alexa use the power of machine learning to understand human language and respond to it intelligently. Or consider Facebook - it recognises familiar faces from your contact list using its algorithms and automatically makes accurate suggestions for tagging your friends.

From Google Search to Netflix to Uber, each of the applications you encounter daily utilise artificial intelligence and machine learning to make faster, effective and more personal technologies. In a Gartner report, artificial intelligence (AI) was predicted to create over 2.3 million job opportunities by 2020. Thus, this field is one of the fastest emerging in the domain of science and technology.

Course of Study: A B.Tech degree in computer science, followed by a Master of Science in Machine Learning/ Computer Science/ Mathematics is required.

3. IoT’s (Internet Of Things)
The field of the ‘Internet of Things’ is booming. There are many job opportunities in this field for young, talented and hard-working professionals. IOT’s are nothing but a network of physical interconnected devices that can collect and share information across a network. It is simply used to describe objects connected to the internet. Since this is a new industry it is difficult to make predictions of the future. But one thing is certain it is going to become bigger and better paying.
Career opportunities in IoT are as follows:

As the field of IoT is relatively new, there are no specific guidelines to drive one’s career through this path. The best way to get through this field is to start working on hands-on projects in startups. A degree in the field of IT, Computer Science and Data Science would be a prerequisite to work in the IoT industry.

4. Full Stack Development
A full stack web developer is a person who works on the front as well as the back end of applications. For example, the interface of Facebook that we are able to see and interact with, is the part of the client-side application. And how Facebook functions under the hood, is the part of server-side application. In addition to mastering HTML and CSS, he/she also knows how to:
   ●Program a client-side application(like using JavaScript, jQuery, Angular, or Vue)
   ●Program a server (like using PHP, ASP, Python, or Node)
   ●Program a database (like using SQL, SQLite, or MongoDB)
You need to be proficient in multiple programming languages, such as JAVA, PHP, C#, Python, Ruby, Perl, etc. As most of your core business processes need to be written in these languages. Maybe not everyone requires to achieve this proficiency But you also have to master the language grammar, and to be very familiar with how to structure, design, implement, and test the project based on one or more languages.
